faster PATENTS (lower overhead)

BREAK the conventional law firm $billing model

MAIN PRINCIPLES (Summary)

No hourly billing, flat-fee pricing;

Our clients are BLUE COLLAR workers and inventors, but their IP is just as good, just as valid, and just as sellable as any PhD anywhere, hence our brand BlueCollarIP™;

Preference on inventors who can furnish us with narrated video of their invention, and confidentially submit via cloud;

Some expectations on the Inventors to be fully forthcoming, understanding how to upload video files whether .MP4 or otherwise, and understanding cloud uploads;

Instant automated docketing notifications;

INVENTORS: Always Avoid any law-firm "pyramid" business model.  Our $prices at BlueCollarIP™ vary, please contact us for info on $pricing, but we are typically far more affordable than most law firms. Our prices also depend partly on your ability to provide key information.

Your legal tasks are not used as a training exercise. Do not pay three attorneys (originating partner, attorney, associate) to do the work of one person.  Our people have years of experience, are already trained. Not learning at your expense, not training others at your expense.

Preference for inventors who work both from Mobile Devices (excellent for recording video) but also work from Desktop computer. We typically need our clients to use both.  At any law firm, anywhere, the inventor/client should expect to read/edit patent disclosures, including using the "track changes" feature.  This "track changes" feature does not work well in a Mobile context.

If you don't understand how to use "track changes", it will save you a lot of money to learn this feature.

EXAMPLE SERVICES AND BIZ-MODELS

New Patent Applications

Our experienced attorneys can help you draft and file a strong patent application to protect your invention and secure your market position.

Inherited Patent Prosecution

If you have already filed, attorney has retired or out-of-picture, we can help you navigate the patent prosecution process, including responding to Office Actions and conducting interviews with Examiners.

Patent Litigation

Litigation is expensive. Our litigators have the experience and expertise to protect your patent rights in court, whether you're the plaintiff or defendant.

Communicating IP documents via Mobile Device (why unhelpful)

Patent/trademark applications are typically complex documents requiring considerable preparation and thought, usually a combination of .docX and .PDF. It is well-established that reviewing any document on a Mobile Device results in a 40% reduction in reading comprehension. This leads to misunderstandings, and a lack of effective communication-flow. Its best to review patent/trademark documents from a resource where the reader can review the document in a full-page view.  Mobile devices are great for short/quick review, and are certainly fast. But mobile devices also result in misunderstandings and oversimplifying.

No Geographic Limitations

We can work with any inventor, located anywhere in the world. Must have good Internet connectivity. Also, we can file in the USA, and establish Priority, regardless of language of the disclosure. We are located at the Intersection of Florida, Georgia, and Alabama. Can accommodate people with non-English as their native language.

$DISCOUNT$ For Invention-Video + Cloud

Any inventor who can make a narrated video of their invention, and give us a secure cloud link to that narrated video, gets a $discount. Our low-overhead business model takes advantage of  cooperation from inventors.

We provide a variety of services, some are difficult to briefly describe

 FOLLOW-ON DEPTH

The process of preparing and filing a patent application has never been easier, this is the best time in history to need a patent filed.  Small law firms can now do complex IP tasks that previously required a larger legal-staff.  CONGRATULATIONS!

Hourly billing is a really STUPID, ANTIQUATED mechanism, yet many law firms still practice this way!  Exorbitant fees — complex billing software, complex docketing, too many cooks, too many chefs, too many partners, too much $skimming.

No matter where you're located, we can help you (as long as you have decent Internet). It is not even necessary that you speak English, hablamos algo de español, 私たちは日本語を少し話します, 我们可以粗略翻译您的一些中文通讯.
Combined 31 years of patent and federal law practice,

TRACK RECORD> At this firm (~9 years) 200 patents Issued, >140 trademarks Registered.  Have never filed for extension of time, always comply with US Patent/Trademark Office standard deadlines.
We stand behind our work. However, we don't make promises we can't keep.  After 26 years, we have a pretty good idea of what an Examiner will tolerate, either a TM Examiner or a Patent Examiner. We can head off problems before they happen. But sometimes that involves giving clients bad news, rough news, disappointing news.
Traditional "pyramid-style" law firms and online services don’t always tell the full picture when it comes to the true cost of IP protection.

PHONE CALLSWe don't have the capacity to take random calls from potential new clients. Our low-overhead low-staff business model means we can save money, but it also means we need to work via e-mail quite a bit. We need literate clients that can be content with text and e-mail. Literate can be in a number of languages, we can translate.
Spoken-word communications do not lend themselves well to the patent process.

Business & CorporateWe do LLC Operating Agreements, a we find these important and neglected. We also do Escrow Agreements for our clients and their service providers.

Trade Secrets  We don't practice in this area, the conditions for this are so narrow and unlikely that we have never found this doctrine to be suitable. Not one client in 26 years fit the criteria for Trade Secret. Its just too narrow. Forget it.

DIY Patent DrawingsNot possible. Don't ask for this, it will not save money in any way. If you insist on this, go somewhere else. No money will be saved. Not once in 26 years has a client furnished their own drawings that were satisfactory for patent filings. We always have to modify them and control the final edits, especially during the application-drafting process.
Also, the patent drawing costs are included in our flat-fee quotes.  We want your VIDEO, We do not mind if you give us drawings, STL files, SolidWorx, etc. But we will change them a lot. The patent law firm, not the inventor, must control this process.

SPECIALTIESWe have carved out some specialties, mainly because no one else wants to practice in this area.

Tattoos and CopyrightSee our section on tattoos, which includes both copyright and trademark principles. It is funny, but a strange exploitation of IP law which clearly has grown beyond what our policing mechanisms can handle. This usually results in strange situations, difficult in enforcement, etc.

Cover Bands and CopyrightAnybody with any thoughts on how we could get more clients in this area, please let us know!  See our section.

Working with this Law Firm

Initial Phone-Consult: $25 for 30min (hard-stop). Discussing complex IP topics by voice, this often doesn't work well.  The "words get in the way". But some people just want to hear a live Human, not some kind of bot. We get that. We can arrange that.
